Heirloom Jewels
Francie
May 2026

A series of four paintings to go alongside Francie’s latest collection, Heirloom Jewels. Inspired by the creams, chestnut browns, charcoals and warm reds of the collection; as well as Briana’s autumn garden; full of heirloom tomatoes, jewel-toned dahlias, and dreams of planting fruit trees.

Francie’s Dahlias (Charcoal) installed at Francie

One of the first things I did when moving to a new garden was clear an area of ground, and plant tomato seedlings, grown from last summer’s tomatoes. Large heirloom tomatoes in deep purples, reds, and orange. The last of the tomatoes are still ripening in the autumn sun; underneath a hillside of pink and purple dahlias. Recently I have been planning and dreaming of what fruit trees to plant, on the sunny corner above the house. Apples, peaches, hazelnut. The seeds and tubers from autumn flowers and fruit, become heirlooms, kept and grown again each year. Emerging every autumn, the pinks, reds, and greens, glow like jewels in the low amber sunlight.
